Why November is Special to Me

November is always a great month for many reasons. Football is on a few days every week, Thanksgiving and family gatherings are a plenty and the seasons are shifting to welcome some snow to Colorado and the mountains start to look prime for skiing. If you know me personally then you probably know that November also has a special meaning for me and if you don’t know me that well I would like to take a minute to share with you why this month is particularly important to me.

November is recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month and if you haven’t put the pieces together yet, I myself am adopted. This month is a reminder to me of how lucky I was to find the wonderful loving and supportive family I found who have raised me into the man, husband, father and businessman I am today.

During this month, there are many activities and information to help build awareness of adoption, participation in local programs and other activities to help promote positive perceptions, debunk myths and draw attention to tens of thousands of children in foster care. This month brings awareness to all the kids out there who are hoping to find a permanent home with a good family and I would encourage anyone who has thought about adoption to take this month to really consider the possibility of welcoming a child into their home.

As a father to a beautiful little girl, I know how important it is for a child to grow up in a household of love and support. My adoptive parents were that for me and that is part of the reason I am as successful as I am today because I had two parents who took me in, loved me and showed me that I could do whatever I put my mind to. Today, I hope to do the same for my daughter as her father and also as her friend and mentor. People talk about leaving a legacy one day and I hope to do that through my work as a realtor and entrepreneur but I know that my true legacy will lie in my daughter and the generations after me.

November is a month that has a lot of meaning to me and will continue to for the rest of my life. Today, and everyday, I am thankful for the people who opened their homes and hearts to me and built a healthy foundation for me that I now have to stand on as I also build foundations for those around me. Being a businessman is one of the greatest joys for me, but being a family man is the greatest joy for me.
